My story
Simple moments, reimagined.
I juggle painting with a bustling family life. Art lets me pause (although never for long!)
I’m attracted to landscapes that I’m actively part of; places that hold happy memories, places I revisit time and time again. Ordinary to others yet special to me.
Nature is generous, and being outside gives my thoughts room to roam. It’s this fusion of the physical landscape and freedom of imagination that enables me to create immersive and joyful paintings that connect.
My Process
I sketch quickly to focus me on points of interest within the landscape. I talk and walk, recording my reactive observations to replay back in my studio.
When a seed begins to grow that’s my signal to act. Momentum helps my paintings feel lively and stay close.
I know when a painting’s complete if it feels slightly unfinished. If I overwork it becomes rigid and difficult to find its quiet voice.
Retaining the quiet voice amongst the intuitive mark-making is my challenge; to relax and brighten in one extended gaze.
